On the third day of my holiday in Greece, the sun finally came out. Up until that point I’d been huddled up in a cardigan and shorts, freezing to death because I hadn’t thought to pack anything warm enough for wintery weather. But then, when the sun finally woke me up by shining through the gap in my curtains, I knew it was finally the day to wear something nice.

And so I quickly roused my sister and got ready. Where we were going, I hadn’t yet decided, but we would definitely be going somewhere. We would also definitely be swimming. I couldn’t last another day on holiday without actually taking a swim outside. After taking a quick look in the Crete guidebook, we decided to visit a freshwater lake about ten minutes down the road from the villa.

There you go, I’ve finally plucked up the courage to post a picture of myself on my blog. Let me know in the comments below what you think of my outfit and be sure to check in soon to see my next post. I love you all for continuing to view my blog each day.

Abbey life

Summer 2014 046

I’ve always loved going to see ruins of places; castles, abbeys, roman ruins. Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire has got to be one of my favourites; with its water gardens and beautiful lake, you can take a leisurely stroll along on a warm and sunny day. Even after a good few hours, when you’ve seen all of the ruins, the cafe is there to beckon you in with a delicious handmade ice cream or pot of steaming tea. Definitely one of the best days I’ve had in a while!

The picture below is of my sister, modelling one of my favourite skirts – yes, MY skirt, as she stole it that morning. But that’s sisters for you! I know, I know, you’re wondering when a picture of me will miraculously appear, but I will honestly post one soon… when I finally find one of myself that I actually like…

But for now I will leave you with some pretty pictures taken by moi! Comment below if you can recommend any other good ruins or castles to visit. Or even a cute little tea shop somewhere.

Sentimentality

Okay, so couple of weeks ago I received my AS Level results. Now I know what you’ll all be thinking; you did really well, stop moaning! But hear me out. I am hoping to study medicine next year, which obviously means that I need A grades or better. My grades were AAAAB – with the B being in Biology. I know, I know, STOP MOANING EMILY! I’ll probably be fine, but then again, I might just have ruined my chances. However, I’ll stop complaining and get on to what this post is really about.

This week I haven’t really been doing much, but I have been rearranging all of my things. The picture is of my necklace collection and I’m going to write the stories behind some of them.

The silver locket was a present from my grandmother. Unexcitingly, I don’t have a picture in it yet, but I like to think that the real memory is in the giving of the necklace. It’s one of my favourite possessions and I probably wear it too much, but I honestly don’t care.

The little Pandora bag on the necklace was a gift from my dad. I had asked for a charm for my birthday, to go on my bracelet, but with my dad being Dad, he got one of the only charms in the shop that would not fit on. *sigh* I couldn’t bring myself to tell him though, so I went ahead and bought a chain for it to go on, and I think it looks really pretty.

The other pieces of jewelry on there don’t really have a big story behind them, but they’re pictured because they’re what I wear most. I hope you like them – let me know in the comments below. Also, do you have a piece of jewelry you couldn’t live without? Or maybe a family heirloom passed down to you?

Definite failings

I don’t think I have ever failed at something so badly. I’m not talking about my actual holiday – because that was great! My plan to post something every single day of the holidays went completely to pot. Now I bet you’re all thinking; yes, she stayed on the sofa for the remainder of the holiday, watching Titanic and eating far too much chocolate. But you would be wrong. In fact, I did loads of things.

Today I’ll tell you about my day in the Lake District. The Lakes has always been one of my favourite places to visit for a stroll with the dogs and a piece of cake after. I like to take the day easy; driving around until I find the perfect spot and then taking Pippa and Poppy (a.k.a. Rottweiler and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) for a wander around a loch or up a hill. We usually walk for about two hours and then it’s back to Daisy (a.k.a. car).

After that, we bounce up and down the country lanes in search of a café. I like to find the cutest little tea room with delicious cake and good tea. My favourite cake has got to be Red Velvet, with cream cheese frosting. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

'tea-licious'

I have a dream…

Trying to cram all of the fun things into a two month period called ‘Summer Holidays’ is much harder than it initially sounds. Sitting in class during a June heat wave you get the idea that this holiday time is never-ending and you will be able to live a whole life in that time; write a book, go on holiday, lose a stone, and possibly even build a house.

But that’s hardly the reality, is it?

For twelve years I have done this. I would start the summer with a list of brilliant things to do. And yes, I WAS going to do them. However, after two weeks of sitting on the sofa watching Titanic and Mamma Mia over and over again, I realise that this is never going to happen. That I am going to once again waste my whole holiday doing absolutely nothing.

So tonight, whilst sitting through Mamma Mia for the fourth time this holiday, I decided that it was going to actually do something. My plan (note: plan, not promise) is to write this blog. I am going to try and post something interesting – or as interesting as possible – every single day until I return to college in September. There will probably definitely be tears, lots of fun, some photos of what I would call my fashion, and a whole load of rambling. But at least I am going to have fun.

And you wonderful people reading this blog are going to become some of my closest friends. I will literally be sharing my life story with you, and in return all I ask is that you try to enjoy yourselves too; stay out too late, drink too much alcohol, eat that whole chocolate cake, book an extravagantly expensive holiday. And please, if you’d like to, share these experiences with me in the comments section. I’d love to hear from you all.

Best summery and sunny wishes,
